PROJECT // INTERDISCIPLINARY ART INSTALLATION
FOR vs. AGAINST
An art project based on modern technology

Audiovisual installation FORvs.AGAINSTartist Jelena Remetin is an interdisciplinary project that networks stage movement, scenography, sound design, dramaturgical word and the virtual world as artistic categories with an emphasis on virtual reality and sound software.

Combining the power of theatrical expression, primarily movement and narration, and then virtual reality, the project outlines a completely different way of interactive storytelling that simulates a virtual world in a wide 360 ° field of view. The text and mise en scène installations thematize violence in all its forms and show the ambiguity that exists in human relationships, false impressions, as well as the condemnations we have towards others.
In this installation, the audience tries to change the thread of the story, and thus her opinion of the characters. In this way, the participant was encouraged to present his / her own view of the events that initiated certain stories and to adhere to one of them or not. However, if we do not side with one of the parties, then it loses its meaning, because if we are not FOR, then we are AGAINST.
The author Jelena Remetin says about the project: “My intention was to put the emphasis on three things with the realization of this project: reality vs. VR (virtual reality), set design vs. image (360 ° video) and the viewer vs. movement, whereby the audience of this audiovisual interactive installation takes the lead role, moreover, it decides for itself how far it wants to go in researching the above categories and ultimately imposes on itself the inevitable confrontation: FOR and AGAINST. “ The art installation FORvs.AGAINST was premiered to the public in 2018 at the Zagreb Dance Center, while its last exhibition was realized in collaboration with HULU Split in December 2021 at the Multimedia Cultural Center Split.
This installation is the first in a series of series on violence where audiences are directly confronted with sexual violence. The project is conceived as a perennial and the continuation of this series in 2022 is the art project FRAGMENTS-ode to the body that deals with violence against one’s own body.
The focus of the artist is that in her next exhibitions she continues to explain the topic of aggression and various forms of violence that are ubiquitous in our society, but they are still insufficiently talked about.
